Triumphant Egyptians Win it Again!

After a tough game yesterday, the Egyptian national team beat Ghana 1 -0 to win the African Cup on Nations for the third time in a row and for the seventh time overall; setting up a record that is hard to beat.

This is am amazing feat. I was so jubilant as I watched our new national hero "Gedo" score as usual in the dying minutes of the game to clinch Egypt's victory and make the entire Egyptian population the happiest people on the world yesterday and for days to come I'm sure.

Hassan Shehata proved to the world that he is one of a kind, not because he was able to win the championship for a third consecutive time, but because he posses a unique ability to unit the team and bring the best out of them. There were lots of people who doubted him, but he overcame all the obstacles specially the defeat from Algeria in the world cup qualification and the absence of key players due to injuries and lack of discipline. He is no doubtfully the best Egyptian coach ever.

Hassan Shehata is an example of leader that Egypt needs, someone who can inspire and rally the troops and bring the best out of the people, unlike our current aging president who can only bring stagnation, and corruption.

Gedo amazing wining goal against Ghana yesterday was unbelievable, I was so happy and excited like never before. The "Gedo" phenomena proved to me that Egypt is full of talented people not getting their fare chance, however once they are discovered and employed in the right time, they can create pure magic, similar to what we saw from Gedo during the tournament. I wish him the best of luck in his carrier, and I also wish he gets to play in Europe soon because he rightfully deserve it.

As much as I am happy with Egypt's victory, I also resent those who try to benefit from it politically such as Gamal Mubarak and his brother Alaa, who spared not time to pose with the team after their big victory as if they had anything to do with the win. We all know that they are in it for their cheap political gains and they had nothing to do with victory. Let's not forget that the people responsible for the victory are Hassan Shehata and his team, anyone else is in it for his or her political gains only, that is it.

My final comment is regarding the Algerian media which had a mute response to the Egyptian win. Most Algerian sport web sites and online newspapers went on attacking the Egyptians for no reason. To me Egypt got its revenge when they beat Algeria 4 -0. The Pharaoh showed that they are the best team in Africa through out the tournament winning all their games. There was maybe some questionable calls from the referee during the Algerian match, but for the Algerian to insinuate that Egypt bribed the referee without proof is uncalled for. It is evident that the Algerian are unable to accept the defeat from Egypt and they blamed it on the ref. The ref sent off the second Algerian player deservedly after Egypt was up 2-0 and was the better team through out the game so Egypt was bound to win with no question without referee assistance. But the Algerian played rough and resolved to violence after they were beaten on the score sheet. There was no foul play except from the Algerian players.

Regardless, I hope the Algerian team can overcome their weak points before the world cup because I'll be cheering for them in at least 2 out of three games as I'm not sure yet about the USA - Algeria match.

Congratulation to Egypt for the great win and championship. We deserve it. God bless the great country of Egypt, and its magnificent Egyptians. We are the champion's of Africa, and nobody can take that away from us.

(and if only we would have made it to the World Cup ...)
